Awesome, it’s out 🥳! Amazing project on #3Dprinting of #livingmaterials in the form of responsive mycelium hydrogels. @AETUDelft @Shaping_Matter 🍄 Our team has developed a 3D printing approach that uses fungal mycelia to create living complex materials capable of self-repair, regeneration, and adaptation to their environment. By printing hydrogels with the fungus Ganoderma lucidum, we have created a mechanically robust, self-cleaning robotic skin that can autonomously regenerate after sustaining damage, demonstrating the potential of this technology for engineering living materials.

The work of Wilhelm on nacre-like composites gets published in PNAS!
Composites containing mineral bridges and platelet asperities similar to nacre are produced. The damping performance of the synthetic composites surpasses many biological and man-made materials, even though nacre has a much more perfect microstructural organization. Our nacre-like composites display a loss modulus 2.4-fold higher than natural nacre and 1.4-fold more than highly dissipative natural fiber composites!
